Like the rest of Europe, we've encouraged our farmers to produce more food than we can eat by giving them more public money than we give to any other industry.
They're a success story all right - but at the taxpayers' expense.
Agriculture is about to bankrupt the Common Market, but the member governments still can't agree what to do. Will they now face up to the farmers we can no longer afford?
