Horizon: African Medicine

on BBC Two England

Horizon - man and science today

In many parts of Africa babies still die young. They have no proper funeral -
just burial. Why do so many die? This summer Horizon went to Nigeria, and the remote islands of Lake Chad; there the team lived with the missionaries and doctors who are bringing modern medicine to the villages and leprosy settlements.
A poor diet, lack of sanitation, and most of all ignorance-these are near impossible conditions for successful treatment. African Medicine looks at the methods being used to cure and educate - and at the dedicated people who are taking medicine to Africa.
