on BBC One London

Frank Bough, Sue Lawley, Hugh Scully, John Stapleton and Bob Wellings provide you with background to the news of the day and present some of the less serious features and stories that make up the scene Nationwide.

Including the launch of The British Rock and Pop Awards 1980 in which viewers join Radio 1 listeners and readers of the Daily Mirror to vote for the 'Oscars' of the pop world, in these, the biggest pop music awards ever, last year's winners included Ian Dury, The Bee Gees and Kate Bush.

Tonight, and for the next four Thursdays, Nationwide will be reviewing the pop scene in 1979 with the help of Radio 1 disc jockeys. Tonight Dave Lee Travis and Kid Jensen help to guide your choices for 'Best Single' and 'Best Female Singer'
