A three-part portrait of one of the 'giants' of the 20th-century, born 100 years ago.

Charles de Gaulle was persuaded to return to power in 1958 when the war for Algerian independence threatened France's entire system of republican government. No previous war was shown so fully on TV and in the cinema. This episode vividly recaptures the excitement of the period.
