Up North

on BBC Two England

The last in a series of diverse film documentaries from the North of England. Tonight:
Visions of Big Business
When Cadeby colliery in Yorkshire closed last year, the only chance of continuing employment for those who took redundancy was to run their own business. Ken Savage 's vision of big business was in selling china. In his community he's reckoned to be a success, but Ken's not so sure. He admits to being a bit frightened.
Former miners make reluctant entrepreneurs. Like the rest, there's something in Ken's background and surroundings which is holding him back.
