The Ospedali of Venice
The four great Ospedali or hospices of Venice enjoyed a reputation as progressive centres of music-making, the best-known being the Pieta and its association with Antonio Vivaldi. Lucie Skeapingtravels to Venice to discover the origin of music-making in Venice's charity institutions and reflects on the many composers and musicians - especially woman musicians - who worked there. The programme includes music by Vivaldi, Johann Hasse , Anna Bonn and Maddelena Sirmen.
