The fifth of six programmes recorded at the Royal Festival Hall, London marking the appointment of Andre Previn as Music Director of the RPO. Salvatore Accardo is the soloist in Prokofiev Violin Concerto
Nol with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra leader BARRY GRIFFITHS conducted by Andre Previn
'Prokofiev, a most prolific composer, worked more in the concerto form than any other major composer of the 20th century,' says Previn. 'His first violin concerto dates from his student days, but it's in fact a very assured work, immensely imaginative and skilled in its orchestration, with that irrepressible gift of melody that makes his music so very attractive.'
The concerto is preceded by a performance of Beethoven Coriolan Overture. Sound VIC GODRICH
