Gordon Wilkins covers the world of motoring
With Michael Frostick and Judith Jackson
Motoring expenses have tripled in the past ten years and the AA estimates that a one-litre family car driven for 10,000 miles a year now costs £10 a week to keep on the road. Does the London Motor Show at Earls Court offer any hope of cheaper motoring in the year ahead?
Car salesmen are giving away petrol, accessories, even free holidays in a bid to bring the customers back to the showrooms. Although the Hillman Imp has been reduced by £50 British Leyland are increasing their prices. The cheapest cars in the British market are imports-the 4-door Citroen Dyane and the 2-door Fiat 500.
