Live from the Met: Cosi fan Tutte

on BBC Radio 3

Mozart's black comedy with an untranslatable title is an intimate six-hander of partner-swapping and deception in love. Two sisters love two men. Two visiting Albanians make a move for the girls. Except that each Albanian is the other sister's fiance in disguise. Add the sisters' streetwise servant and the men's cynical mentor, and you have a classic 18th-century amoral tale. Dangerous Liaisons, perhaps?
