The sleepy hamlet of Turnbotham Round prides itself on being ' a village without crime'. Well, at least no arrests have been made for over ten years, which to some people is not quite the same thing. Sergeant Dudfoot and his assistants, Albert and Harbottle, are told to make an arrest soon - or face the sack. Their attempts at crime-busting provide the basis for one of the most hilarious comedies in the history of British cinema.
