The Young Cyrus

This play is based on a story by the Greek historian Herodotus, who lived in the fifth century B.C. Astyages, King of the Medes, is troubled by dreams that the child born to his daughter and the King of Persia will one day rule the Kingdom in his place. When the child is born he summons his soothsayer and, as a result of his prophecy, Harpagus, the King's confidant, is sent to do away with the young Cyrus. But Harpagus does not relish his task...
