These Modern Ways by Eugene Chirikov in an English version by Basil Ashmore with Thora Hird, Anthony Newlands, Maureen O'Brien and Keith Drinkel.
This is the first performance in English of any play by Chirikov, who was regarded in Russia as Chekhov's successor and was held in high critical regard by Gorky and Stanislavsky. Chirikov's work is largely unknown, but this particular play is one of a quintet entitled Comedies of Provincial Life and which deals with family relationships in a small Russian town at the turn of the last century.
