Night Waves

on BBC Radio 3

Howard Barker 's Scenes from an Execution was highly acclaimed on its first production in 1986. The action is set in Venice, where the artist Galactia struggles to portray the grim reality of battle against the wishes of her patrons.
Kathryn Hunter is taking on the powerful role in a new production of the play, directed for the first time by Barker himself. Richard Coles discusses tonight's opening and talks to contemporary artists about the play's themes of art and moral responsibility. Producer Zahid Warley
