Xerxes
Live from the Coliseum in London.
Handel's opera looks at the perils of romantic love, balancing tragedy and farce, and the heroic and the comic in music of great brilliance and heartfelt emotion. The plot juggles rivalry, banishment, disguise and misunderstanding as the Persian King Xerxes and his brother Arsamenes both pursue the beautiful Romilda, and are in turn pursued by Amastris and Atalanta.
