1964-1974
Ten Years of Television Motoring Introduced by CLIFF MICHELMORE : from the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu
Over the past decade few things have changed more than the motor car. In 1964 London had its first parking meters, British Minis won the Monte Carlo Rally, and lawyer Ralph Nader started his car safety campaign against Detroit. In this petrol crisis year of 1974, the Greater London Council is pulling down parking meters, British Leyland is out of motor sport, and drivers the world over worry more about mileage than padded steering wheels.
Enjoy again in retrospect the outstanding motoring events of the past ten years as seen through the eyes of Wheelbase.
