Spartans at the Gates of Fire

on BBC Two England

The Battle of Thermopylae in 480BC saw a small Greek force, led by just three hundred Spartans, defending a narrow coastal pass and holding off a Persian Army more than a quarter of a million strong. Using dramatic reconstruction this documentary shows how the small city state of Sparta was able to produce the most feared warriors in the ancient world.
