Dramatic journeys in five people's lives with Desmond Wilcox The Golden Voyage
Fifty years ago the Queen Mary sailed on her historic maiden voyage to New York - the largest, most elegant and most celebrated of the great passenger liners. Even before her launch she had become a maritime legend, and went on to win the Blue Riband for the fastest transatlantic crossing. Half a century later, some veterans of that trip met at a party with HM Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, before sailing on the QE2 to re-create that dramatic first transatlantic crossing. But for a handful of survivors of that maiden journey, including Larry Adler, it was to be a commemorative voyage with a difference; not all went as planned. There was romance, sentiment - and drama.
