Drama Amongst Barbarians
One of the remarkable features of this drama is that it was shot over just three and a half days, for 20 minutes a day and cost under £200,000; nowadays almost every one-off BBC drama is a large-scale, high-budget production. David Jason, star of the comedy series Open All Hours and Only Fools and Horses, takes on his first major drama role for BBCtv playing George, the father of a boy sentenced to death for smuggling heroin in Malaysia. George and his wife Wendy (Rowena Cooper) represent the worst example of the British abroad - by the end you are left wondering just who the real barbarians are.
