Daniel Jones, whose Fifth Symphony is to receive its premiere during the winter season of BBC Symphony Concerts, is one of the leading Welsh composers of today. His Eight Bagatelles were composed during 1948-53.
Robert Crawford, a thirty-three-year-old Scot, composed his Second String Quartet last year in response to a commission from the McEwen. Trust of Glasgow University; the Lyra Quartet gave the first performance at a Trust Concert. It is in three movements.
The Welsh composer David Wynne, who is music master at Lewis School, Pengam, was born in 1900. His Five Short Pieces were written last year.
