Retta Ray in Sophisticated Rhythm
Doray and Chela, Cuban Dancers
and The Knife-Throwing Denvers
In America Retta Ray was a protegee of Eleanor Powell, the famous dancer and actress, whom English cinema audiences saw recently. When Retta Ray appeared in the West End she made a great hit.
Rumbas come from Cuba and so do the two dancers Doray and Chela. They have brought with them a new dance called the mule rumba.
The Knife-Throwing Denvers begin with a brilliant display of rope-spinning and whip-cracking, and finish with the male Denver hurling knives and hatchets perilously close to his partner.
