Having at last decided on a divorce, Marianne and Johan meet one evening to sign the papers. They find each other dramatically changed. Johan, once self-confident, is now insecure and disillusioned; Marianne, on the other hand, having survived the shock of separation, has found herself and recovered her peace of mind.
