The Bomb. Despite a relentless stream of conventional bombing raids on the Japanese, America was determined to use its latest weapon - the atom bomb. With unconditional surrender not forthcoming from Japan, on 6 August 1945 the B-29 plane Enola Gay took off on a special bombing mission to Hiroshima. (R) (S)
