Our Parish
A special series for Rural Schools by EDITH E. MACQUEEN , Ph.D.
' The Old Road '
Listeners to this broadcast will find themselves encouraged to study the roads and footpaths of their districts, and to explore them for local Roman and pre-Roman antiquities.
The scene of the broadcast will be the old road across the moor, now only a farm track, but a main road in pre-Industrial Revolution days.
Something of the road's history will be described, and some of the more sensational finds along its borders will be mentioned.
An historical flashback will reconstruct an imaginary scene on Hadrian's Wall during the Roman occupation. Such ' Our Parish ' characters as Andy Gunnison , the Vicar, and George West will have something to say.
