This production will try to recapture the atmosphere of a well-known London playhouse of the seventeenth century, Dorset Garden Theatre, which was built facing the Thames in 1671. Pictures of its facade, which bore the arms of James, Duke of York, suggest that it was designed by Wren. A quaint feature of the period was that footmen were admitted to the galleries free of the usual charge of 2s. 6d. at the end of the fourth act of any production.
