Assignment

on BBC Two England

Let Her Die
The documentary series returns with a disturbing film which looks at the growing practice in India of killing unwanted baby girls. Women are seen as a financial liability, while boys are the be-all and end-all. New diagnostic techniques are being used solely for sex selection, and almost without exception, rich and poor alike will abort female foetuses. Infanticide is against the law, but mothers openly discuss how they poison or suffocate their babies. It will require a social revolution before there is any real change.
