Anna Karenina: Part 1

on BBC Two England

by Leo Tolstoy
Dramatised in 10 parts by Donald Wilson
Starring Nicola Pagett, Stuart Wilson

'Happy families are all alike: every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.' Tolstoy's great novel begins with these words and the family we meet first - that of Stiva Oblonsky - is apparently of the second kind. But Stiva's sister Anna is travelling from St Petersburg to Moscow, so the unhappiness may be only temporary.
