Ten films about development issues in India
2: Five Million Children
Half of all the deaths in India are of children under the age of 5. While so many children continue to die so young, millions of parents will continue to have five or six children rather than two. This film looks at this problem in different parts of India, and especially at the work of the Gandhi-gram Institute of Rural Health and Family Welfare in the southern state of Tamilnadu. Here, during the last 20 y ur, there has been a dramatic improvement in the health of very young children, and the birth rate has been halved.
