First of eight programmes. Thailand
Thailand has one of the world's most seductive cuisines. Its dishes seem to burst with contrasting hot, sweet, sour and salty flavours. Madhur Jaffrey joins the Woodtikarn family in Chiang Mai, in northern Thailand, for a lunch of sticky rice and spicy pork curry and visits one of the local craft villages to see a meal eaten in more traditional style. In Bangkok Madhur learns to make the country's famous hot and sour prawn soup and a delectable savoury fruit salad. She marvels at the range and quality of exotic fruit in a Bangkok market and looks in on a fruit carving lesson at a local college. Madhur shows how to make spicy beef salad
(Laab) and minced chicken stir-fried with basil.
