The Tourist

on BBC Two England

Third in the six-part series examining how and why tourism first evolved.
The Sun, the Sea and the Spanish. Fifty years ago, Torremolinos on the Costa del Sol, Spain, was an idyllicfishing village that was just beginningto be discovered by the jet set. The Tourist tells the story of its transformation into a cheap and cheerful package-holiday resort. It talks to Spanish people, from bar owners and hotel managers to the minister who, under General Franco's dictatorship, helped to establish modern mass tourism in the area.
