The first of two programmes in which traveller and historian
Jan Morris journeys to cities that have had an influence on her life.
Morris sets off from Llanystumdwy in Gwynedd for Trieste, Italy, which she first visited as a British army officer. In Cairo she considers her strange fear of the Egyptian capital. She then travels to Manhattan, which welcomed her as a reporter of the first Everest ascent. The second film is on Friday 3 January at
