The World About Us: Shiva's Disciples

on BBC Two England

In the south Indian state of Kerala, Shiva, the god of dance, exerts a mystic power over his disciples on this remote part of the Malabar coast. In work and in prayer, in celebration and in grief, the rhythm of Kerala is the rhythm of the dance.
This remarkable film captures the spirit of Shiva and the soul of his people. Heroic actors in spectacular masks and costumes bring laughter and faith to the poor but proud villagers - as they have done for hundreds of years.
