1: Battleships of Iron and Steel
Throughout the long June days of 1940. the people of the Channel Islands basked in the sun and enjoyed their final days of freedom. On 28 June German aircraft strafed and bombed Jersey and Guernsey. A five-year occupation founded on force, fear, deportation and pain had begun.
In the first of two programmes, Bruce Parker , a Guernseyman himself. has been back to find what memories remain of those isolated years on Hitler's island fortress.
