by Gontran Goulden, Deputy Director of the Building Centre and W.P.K. Findlay, D.Sc. of the Forest Products Research Station.

Cracks between floorboards and warped window frames and doors are results of wood that has not been correctly seasoned before use. Careful kiln seasoning of new timber reduces the chances of trouble later on. Fungus diseases like dry rot are only able to gain a hold when wood is kept in conditions of excessive moisture and inadequate ventilation.
