Arriving in London, Tom Pinch bumps into Charity and finds both her and Mercy much changed. After rescuing his sister from her employers, he introduces her to John Westlock, who has news of a mysterious benefactor. Tigg Montague uses the results of his enquiries to blackmail Jonas, and Pecksniff comes between Young Martin and his grandfather.
