The Lords and Ladies of Little Egypt
When the Gypsies left their native northern India, some as long ago as the tenth century, they took their music with them and, as they travelled, they adapted the music of the many countries they passed through or settled in. As a result, Gypsy music today is rich and varied but wherever its home, its heart remains the same. Rhythms of the World presents a galaxy of Gypsy styles from France to India with the thrilling pop flamenco of the Gypsy Kings from the south of France, percussion from
Hassan Erraji (Morocco), romantic songs from Odjila
(Yugoslavia), Hindi music and dance from Naqqals (India), traditional music from Kalyi Jag (Hungary) and classic Spanish flamenco from La Negra.
