The Alternative to Unemployment? Our old manufacturing industries have declined and new high-technology industries have yet to take their place. The Government believes that new jobs can only come after streamlining in industry. But some economists and opposition politicians claim there is another way. They believe Government should intervene, and spend to create jobs. Steve Bradshaw examines the claim that we could spend our way out of unemployment.
