The hard-swinging Dixieland band, led by the late Scots trumpet player Alex Welsh , was respected by musicians and jazz fans alike.
In this recording, made in 1964 for BBC2's Jazz 625 series, the Alex Welsh Band is joined by special guest star Henry 'Red' Allen who died in 1967. 'Red'
Allen began his career on the riverboats with Fate Marable in 1926 and later played with King Oliver, Luis Russell , Fletcher Henderson and Louis Armstrong.
