Japan: 3: Fisherman's Catch

on BBC Television

A series of films exploring the many worlds of this country of contrasts.

The Japanese methods of fishing vary from the use of a cormorant with a noose round its neck to modern deep-sea trawlers. At some seasons, schools of a thousand dolphins are driven into harbours by village fishermen. So dependent are the Japanese on their fish for food that they still perform elaborate rituals in honour of the Sea God.
