from St Austell, Cornwall Presented by Roy Lancaster and Clay Jones
Shirley and Ray Clemo are enthusiastic gardeners and plant collectors. Their 21-acre garden at Cuddra has been created over ten years and now boasts a fine collection of a wide range of plants, both hardy and tender.
Part of the garden has been developed from land originally used as a dump from an old copper mine.
Consequently the soil is acid and contains toxic levels of copper.
The ground is very wet but, by systematic draining, they have created a beautiful bog garden.
Like many gardens west of Truro, Shirley and Ray's was ravaged by last winter, and many of the tender plants in the garden have been damaged or destroyed but, by taking cuttings, Shirley ensures that there are always plenty of replacement plants.
