Summer Season

on BBC Two England

The second of four programmes from the best of 2nd House. Introduced by Melvyn Bragg Horslips
The Irish jig and the 12-bar blues did not have much in common, until HORSLIPS, a five-piece rock group from Dublin, found a way of marrying the two. Jeux et Masques
ANDRES BOSSARD, BERNIE SCHURCH and FLORIANA FRASSETTO are three young mime artists who got together in 1971 and have since achieved world-wide success with their unique programme of mime, in which they conjure up all sorts of insects, birds, animals - and humans - with the aid of some extraordinary masks. H. M. Bateman
A nostalgic look at the cartoons of H. M. BATEMAN , which provide a document of the taboos and conventions of the 20s and 30s. The Floating World
A film about the popular art of 18th- and 19th-century Japan. The coloured woodcuts of the time conjure up a dream-like world of beautiful but weird landscapes, warriors, exotically-dressed women, fantasy and nightmare. The film includes music specially written by KARL JENKINS of the 'Soft Machine.'
