Outlook for Friday: The Making of America: 1: The Birth of a Nation

on BBC Two England

Written and introduced by Professor Marcus Cunliffe.

In 1790 four million Americans farmed and traded in a narrow strip of thirteen states on the eastern sea-board of a largely unexplored continent. By 1910 ninety-two million Americans in forty-six states inhabited the most powerful industrial nation in the world.
This series of ten programmes tells the story of this unparalleled explosion of political and economic power.
