South Africa: an Indian Experience
The first Indians arrived in South Africa in 1860, shipped in as cheap labour. They were followed by traders known as the "passenger Indians". It was to represent one of these that Mahatma Gandhi travelled to South Africa from London - so sparking his campaigning spirit. This first of two films traces the first 100 years of the Indian experience in South Africa.
