Ballet from Europe: 4: Etudes

on BBC Two England

A series of five widely differing ballets from Prague, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Frankfurt

Etudes is a ballet that derives from the long traditions of the Royal Danish Ballet, and ballet-master Harald Lander's ballet about ballet is based on the exercises that dancers do every day, from the very first day of training to the last.
The music, based on Czerny's etudes, the basic exercises of every pianist, was specially written by the Danish composer Knudaage Riisager.
This Danish Television production made in 1969, shortly before Harald Lander's death, also captures the last performances in this popular ballet of four great Danish ballet stars: Toni Lander, Erik Bruhn, Henning Kronstam and Flemming Flindt
with 40 dancers from the Royal Danish Ballet
Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Poul Jorgensen

The series comes from the Royal College of Art, London, where Professor Stuart Hood gives students the opportunity of talking to the people who made these European ballet programmes.
Talking about Etudes are ballerina Toni Lander and producer Preben Montell.
