After six months of continuous underwater work, the research ship Xarifa lies in Colombo harbour to be refitted for a trip to the little known Nicobar Islands, in the Bay of Bengal. While in Ceylon, Hans and Lotte Hass take time off to visit the ancient fortress of Sigiriya where a princess was whipped, a King was buried alive, and a wicked usurper ruled for eighteen years-once upon a time.
