Michael Berkeley 's guest is the writer and scholar Jane Stevenson , Reader in English at the University of Aberdeen. She is currently working on a fictional trilogy set in 17th-century Europe, of which the first two parts, Astraea and The Pretender, have been widely praised as "worthy of the highest traditions of English fiction". She is keenly interested in early music and her choices today include songs by Campion, Johnson and Purcell, a drinking song from the original Carmina Burana, a nocturne by John Field , and music from South America.
