The Education Programme

on BBC Two England

with Linda Alexander and Martin Young
The 1986 Education Act prescribes a greatly increased role for governors in the running of maintained schools. Their responsibilities include selecting staff and having a say in the curriculum and the management of finance. This programme looks at the experiences of a number of parent governors and at the twin problems of parent apathy and the lack of a national programme of governor training.
