An attractive adolescent from the southern backwoods, Tammy has the engaging qualities of naivety and directness - the epitome of the youthful American heroine whose antecedents stretch back directly to Mary Pickford.
In this film Tammy determines on a reunion with her boyfriend at college, and decides to get herself an education - but in the end she teaches her tutors a few things.
