The Truth about Porkies
Pigs have had a bad press.
There's talk about "filthy pigs", "pigging out", "rotten swine", and rooms "looking like pigsties", while the term "pig" when applied to the boys in blue isn't meant as a compliment. Perhaps it's time for a reappraisal. Jonathan Meades thinks that the pig, which has both pet and pot potential, deserves an image boost. He visits his favourite beast at home - in pigsties, back gardens, show grounds and butchers' shops - and sings the praises of an animal he believes you can take to your heart.
