In spring 1998, photographer Hamish Wilson achieved his long-term ambition, becoming the second European to cross northern Somalia's inhospitable desert by tracing the footsteps of Victorian explorer Sir Richard Burton. This film, aided by Wilson's stills and extracts from Burton's diary read by Kenneth Brannagh, documents Wilson's journey on foot across a region of Africa that is still largely unexplored, and reveals how Burton's name lives on.
