Holkham Hall , Norfolk is an 18th-century mansion in the Italian style in which few changes have occurred since it was built. It is a lasting reminder of an age of elegance and of its most famous owner, Coke of Norfolk, the anti-royalist revolutionary.
The music in the programme comes mainly from the years when Holkham was being built, 1734-1762, and includes pieces by J. C. Bach , J. S. Bach , Boyce, Handel, Haydn, Hook and the six-year-old Mozart.
It is performed by the ENGLISH CHAMBER ORCHESTRA directed by PHILIP LEDGER
With WILLIAM BENNETT , ANN ROSE , JOHN KINGSLEY SMITH and ELIZABETH DE LA PORTE
